About Grandyle Village, New York

Grandyle Village is a hamlet of 4,805 people in the town of Grand Island, Erie County, on the island's eastern shore along the Niagara River. It became a neighborhood after 1935, when new bridges finally tied Grand Island to the mainland by road and families began building homes in subdivisions across the island.

  • Bridges in 1935Single-span bridges opened at the north and south ends of Grand Island in 1935. The new road link set off a wave of building, and Grandyle Village grew up as one of the island's new subdivisions, along with Sandy Beach, East Park and Coldbrook Manor.
  • A ferry since 1825For more than a century before the bridges opened, the island relied on boats. Ferry service between Tonawanda Creek and Grand Island began in 1825.
  • South to Beaver IslandGrandyle Village follows the Niagara River shoreline down to Beaver Island State Park at its southern end. Beaver Island Parkway is the hamlet's main road running north and south.
