About Green, Oregon
Green is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Douglas County, Oregon, where the 2020 census counted 7,614 people. It lies just south of Roseburg, and it carries the family name of Jeptha Green, a settler who made his home close by in 1853. The name came to the community through the railroad station built here.
- Named for Jeptha GreenJeptha Green settled near this spot in 1853, and the community that grew up around the later rail stop kept his name.
- Greens StationWhen the Southern Pacific Railroad opened its station here, the stop was known as Greens. The railroad later dropped the possessive, and the place has been called simply Green ever since.
- Green and Sunnyslope schoolsThe community's younger children go to one of two public schools, Green Elementary or Sunnyslope Elementary, both of which teach the elementary grades.
