About Inwood, Florida

Inwood is a census-designated place of 7,031 people in Polk County, on the west side of Winter Haven along Lake Cannon. The neighborhood grew out of Florida's land boom of the 1920s, when the Haven Villa Corporation promoted it as one of several new subdivisions around Winter Haven. Inwood was never formally made part of the city, and it still lies outside Winter Haven's limits.

  • West Winter Haven School, 1927The neighborhood's school was finished in 1927 under the name West Winter Haven School and is known today as Inwood Elementary. It was completed while Winter Haven's real estate assessments were dropping, a slide that ran from 1926 to 1928.
  • Four lakesLake Blue, Lake Cannon, Lake Jessie and Lake Deer all reach into Inwood. Of the four, only Lake Blue lies entirely inside the community.
