About Kulpsville, Pennsylvania
Kulpsville is a community of 8,159 people in Towamencin Township, Montgomery County, on the Towamencin Creek. The Kulp family settled on this land in 1776, and the village that grew up here took their name.
Towamencin was always a farming township, and a county history of 1923 counted Kulpsville as its only village. The village sits near the middle of the township, on high ground that gives it a wide view of the farms around it.
- A brick hall in 1856In 1856 the village gained a three-story brick building. Under one roof it held shops, stores and offices, and its upper rooms served as meeting halls for secret societies.
- A Methodist church in 1862Kulpsville's Methodists built their church in 1862, six years after the brick hall went up. Together the two buildings gave the farming township a place to trade, meet and worship.
- A business school in 1867In 1867 Professor S. U. Brunner founded a school at Kulpsville, the North Wales Academy and School of Business. Four years later he moved it to North Wales, the town whose name it already carried.
