About Lake Village, Indiana

Richard Malone laid out Lake Village, the fifth Newton County town to be platted, in January 1876. Little was done to build it up until 1905. That year the Chicago, Indiana and Southern Railroad was built across the western part of the county. Two new additions were platted that November, a month before the first trains ran.

In 1900 Lake Village had no railroad link with the outside world. It stood about eight miles from Thayer or Rose Lawn. Even so, it was a place of some business. It had kept a Sunday school for many years.
