About Lamb, Indiana
Lamb sits in Craig Township in Switzerland County, Indiana, and has never been incorporated. Its first name was Erin. An Irish settler, Edward McIntire, laid out a town by that name in 1815 across the river from Carrollton, but the plat of Erin was later vacated and the town he planned was never kept on the books.
- A ferry and a horse millEdward McIntire did more than draw the plan for Erin. He also ran a ferry across the river to Carrollton and kept a horse mill, where animals turned the stones that ground grain. Perret Dufour, writing about the county's early days, remembered McIntire's mill opposite Carrollton as one of the horse mills of that time.
- Lamb post office, 1882The name Lamb took hold when a post office called Lamb opened here in 1882. It served the community until 1907, when it was discontinued. The name stayed with the place.
