About Lund, Nevada

Latter-day Saints settled Lund in 1898. The federal government had given the land to the LDS Church to replace property seized under the Edmunds-Tucker Act. The settlers named the town after Anthon H. Lund, a leader of their church. Earlier, the spring and site carried the name of rancher Tom Plane.

In the early 1870s, Tom Plane ran a ranch near Lund Spring that raised food and livestock for the mining towns. Travelers on the Hamilton-Pioche road rested at his ranch house. James R. Withington later took over the ranch. He built the first flour mill in White Pine County there, at the spring head.
