About Lyndonville, New York
Residents picked the name Lyndon for their new post office at a public meeting. Several of them had come from Lyndon, Vermont. Postal officials made it Lyndonville instead. The longer name kept it apart from Linden in Genesee County.
Early settlers left Yates Center to use the water power of Johnson's Creek. Some of them had come from Lyndon, Vermont, so the village took the name Lyndonville. The cobblestone house of settler Jackson Blood joined the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.
- Two hometown war heroesTwo Medal of Honor recipients have ties to Lyndonville. Technical Sergeant Forrest L. Vosler, honored for his World War II actions, was born here. The village also raised Staff Sergeant David Bellavia, the first living Iraq war recipient of the medal.
- Native hunting ground inside the villageA farm in the village of Lyndonville once held a salt lick. Native people used to hunt there a great deal. On the banks of Johnson Creek opposite it, people found a great many arrowheads, plus some pipes and charms.
