About Madison, South Dakota

From the Federal Writers Project: "MADISON, 157m. (1,669 alt., 5,024 pop.), founded in 1875, attracted early settlers because of its proximity to lakes and the abundance of game and fish within easy reach. Its environs reminded the pioneers so much of the capital of Wisconsin that they gave the embryonic town the same name."
