About Melmore, Ohio
John C. Jones built the first house at Melmore in 1824. He died there in 1828. Buckley Hutchins opened the first store on September 28, 1824. For years he ran it along with the post office.
Colonel Kilbourn wrote a poem about Melmore. It praised Honey Creek's waters and pictured Melmore seen through the trees. James M. Stevens of Melmore sang it to a tune called How Tedious and Tasteless the Hours. Stevens later lost an arm in the Civil War.
