About Milroy, Pennsylvania

The village was first called Perryville. The name came from a man called Perry, who lived there early. John Fertig built the first house, with his distillery in the basement. In 1850, the citizens changed the name to Milroy. The town grew slowly until the railroad arrived and gave it new life.

  • When the railroad reached the townThe Mifflin and Centre County Railroad was extended from Reedsville to Milroy. The line opened there in January 1868. It ran 12.3 miles from Lewistown Junction to Milroy.
