About Morrisonville, New York

In 1828, Heman Smith and Josiah Wilcox built an iron forge at Morrisonville. At the time, the village was the leading place on the Saranac River above Plattsburgh. A flood in 1830 swept away the forge, mills and bridge. The forge hammer and anvil turned up three miles downstream. That ended the iron business there.

In 1872, Mr. Emery moved to Morrisonville and bought twelve acres. He laid out three new streets linking River and Mason streets. Four houses, a church and a graded school soon stood on his lots. At Emery's Corners he opened a dry goods and grocery store with a public hall upstairs.
