About Mundy, Michigan
From the History of Genesee County: "When the petition for a new township was sent in to the Legislature, the name Independence was proposed for it, but owing to the fact that a township in Oakland County bore the same name, that of Mundy Was substituted by the Legislature, in honor of Edward S. Mundy, then lieutenant-governor of the State."
