About Normanna, Texas

Normanna is a community of 98 people in Bee County. U.S. Route 181 runs through the middle of town and links it with Beeville, the county seat, 9 miles to the south, and with Kenedy, 21 miles to the north. Its children go to school in the Pettus Independent School District.

  • The Colony, since 1893In 1893 a group of Norwegian settlers moved into this part of Bee County and made their homes two miles east of Walton. Their settlement kept its name over the years, and people still call it the Colony.
  • Ranch house, hotel, museumOne two-story building has served Normanna in several ways. It began as the headquarters of the Chittim-Miller Ranch, later became a hotel, and then was home to the Bridge family for seventy-two years. By 1990 the old building held a historical museum, and the town still had its own post office, along with one store and a service station.
