About Peppermill Village, Maryland
Peppermill Village is an unincorporated community of 5,264 people in Prince George's County, along Central Avenue, with the city of Seat Pleasant on its western and northern sides. This ground was once farmland, and Zeph Fenno kept a small dwelling on his farm of 64 acres. Mary Carmody bought the farm in 1898, and by 1905 her family had put up a substantial house on it, possibly built around Fenno's older home.
- Carmody Hills in 1924In 1924 the Carmody property west of the family house was divided into building lots and developed as a new neighborhood. It took the family's name, Carmody Hills, and the Census Bureau now counts Carmody Hills and Peppermill Village together as one census-designated place.
- A banker for Seat PleasantFrancis S. Carmody lived in the family house and was one of the early developers of neighboring Seat Pleasant. From 1913 to 1917 he served as president of that town's first bank.
