About Point of Rocks, Maryland
Point of Rocks became known across the nation in 1830, five years before the town was laid out. That year the B&O Railroad battled the C&O Canal for the narrow strip of land between Catoctin Mountain and the Potomac. After a long legal fight, a compromise was reached. It lasted until 1867, when the railroad tunneled through the mountain.
