About Risingsun, Ohio
Risingsun is a Wood County village with 541 residents recorded in the 2020 census. Settled during the 1830s and incorporated in 1879, the community adopted its present single-word name near the end of the nineteenth century.
- Early SettlementSettlement began in the 1830s, and a county account identifies Straub as building a log cabin at the village site in 1837.
- Village MilestonesRisingsun was laid out in 1876 and incorporated three years later.
- Changing NameA post office opened as Rising Sun in 1873, then adopted the spelling Risingsun in 1894.
- Compact FootprintThe Census Bureau reports a total area of 0.57 square miles, all of it land.
- Local School DistrictAlmost all of the village is within the Lakota Local School District.
