About Roan Mountain, Tennessee
From the National Park Service: "Wilder purchased large tracts of timber in Carter and Unicoi counties and in the village of Roan Mountain itself. In around 1884 he built a large frame Italianate residence in the center of Roan Mountain."
From the National Register of Historic Places: "John T. Wilder, a well-known soldier and entrepreneur, played an important role in the development of many sections of East Tennessee, including Roan Mountain."
