From the A Gazetteer of Illinois: "Rochester, a town site in Sangamon county, at the junction of the North and South forks of the Sangamon river, ten miles east of Springfield, on the principal road to Decatur. It has a steam and other mills, and twenty-five or thirty families, and a post office."
