About Salem Heights, Hamilton County, Ohio
Francis McCormick, who fought under Lafayette at the siege of Yorktown, founded Methodism in the Northwest Territory. After a church at Milford, he founded one at his village of Salem, where families first held services in his log home. He rests with his family and followers in the churchyard. When he gave land in 1817 for a church and public school, the families built a log church, later replaced by a brick one. The present church was built in 1863.
