About Fruit Hill, Ohio

Fruit Hill is a census-designated place of 3,748 people in Anderson Township, Hamilton County, covering 1.3 square miles of land. It is named for a single family farm, the Hoppers' orchard on Markley Road. The farm's name passed to the local post office, and people in Anderson Township still call this part of it Fruit Hill.

  • An orchard begun in 1830Abraham Hopper bought the land in 1830. He built a small house and started clearing all 500 acres, planning to turn them into an orchard.
  • Aaron Hopper's fruit farmAbraham's son Aaron inherited the farm and carried out his father's plan. Under Aaron, the land became a busy fruit and vegetable farm that turned a good profit, and he called it Fruit Hill.
  • The Fruit Hill post officeAaron's brother was the first postmaster in the area. He named the post office Fruit Hill after the family's farm, and the whole neighborhood took that name.
  • On the 2024 Garden TourThe original Fruit Hill Farm, with its historic house and garden, was part of the Anderson Township Garden Tour in 2024.
