About Savage, Montana
Savage is a community of 303 people in Richland County, Montana, on the Yellowstone River about 20 miles south-southwest of Sidney. For many years grain farmers and the beet growers of the river bottoms shipped their crops from here, and that trade made it a busy stop in the valley. The beet farms did better after 1925, when a sugar beet factory opened in Sidney.
“A railroad man from Billings, Montana by the name of Savage came down the valley and spotted a bit of prairie which he thought was an ideal spot for a town.”
- Named for H. M. SavageThe town takes its name from H. M. Savage, a supervising engineer with the U.S. Reclamation Service.
- A letter from ReaganSavage marked its Diamond Jubilee, its 75th year, in 1985. President Ronald Reagan sent the town's residents a letter of congratulations dated June 28, 1985.
- Home of the WarriorsSavage Public School teaches students from kindergarten through 12th grade, and the teams of Savage High School play as the Warriors.
