About Scott, Arkansas
Scott is named for Conoway Scott Sr., who settled here in the 1830s. When the railroad came, its new station stood on his land and was called Scott's Station. In 1912 his son built a large brick store. The community's name was later shortened to Scott.
More than a thousand years ago, people of the Plum Bayou culture built a complex group of mounds near Mound Pond. They lived in east-central Arkansas from about 650 to 1050 CE. The land was farmed in the 1800s but is now protected as Plum Bayou Mounds Archeological State Park.
- A Civil War duel between generalsOn September 6, 1863, two Confederate generals fought a duel on the Lefevre Plantation near Scott. John S. Marmaduke had questioned the courage of Lucius M. Walker. Marmaduke fatally wounded Walker. He was arrested and charged with murder, but he was soon released and the charge was dropped.
