About Sevastopol, Wisconsin
Sevastopol is a town of 2,826 people in Door County, and water covers 38.7 of its 90.6 square miles. Much of its early business depended on that water. An old county record names two pier owners here, Boalt & Stebbins and David Greenwood, and a fishery kept by the Messrs. Clark. In 2011 residents founded the Sevastopol Historical Society to gather and save the town's past.

- Named for a schoolA Catholic boarding school stood long ago at the spot now called Institute, and the community kept the school's name after it was gone. The town hall is there today.
- Gateway to the dunesValmy, said VAL-mee, is where many visitors enter the town on their way to Whitefish Dunes State Park and Cave Point County Park.
- A world-class potato bankJust north of Sturgeon Bay, the Peninsular Research Station keeps the national Potato Genebank. In 2010 its 65 wild species made it the second biggest collection of living wild potatoes anywhere. In fiscal year 2019 it shipped 10,042 samples to scientists and companies, and 3,383 of them went abroad. Master gardeners tend a one-acre botanical garden on the grounds with about 350 varieties of plants.
