About South Glens Falls, New York

In 1766, the Daniel Parks family became the first to settle here. They received 800 acres and built a house and a sawmill. By the mid-1830s the settlement had sawmills, a gristmill, a cotton mill, a quarry and a dock. The village incorporated in 1895 to build a public water system.

Cooper's Cave appears on the village seal. James Fenimore Cooper visited the cave and used it as a setting in his novel The Last of the Mohicans. It lies in the bedrock of the Hudson River.
