About Steuben, Maine

Steuben was incorporated in 1795. It was named for Baron Friedrich Wilhelm von Steuben, who served as Inspector General of the U.S. Army in the Revolutionary War.

Steuben is nearly surrounded by water, with the Narraguagus River and Bay on the east and the sea to the south. The largest village sits at the head of Steuben Harbor. Tunk Stream powered a sawmill and a gristmill above the village.
