About Stony Creek, New York
Stony Creek became its own town in 1852, carved out of the Warrensburg area once called Athol. A tannery stood where Roaring Branch meets Stony Creek. Around 1900 the town peaked at 1,250 people. When the hemlocks were cut out and tanning methods changed, the tannery closed and the population dropped.
