About Touchet, Washington
Before the reservations, a native village stood near the present townsite. Its name was Tuushi, meaning baking salmon on sticks over coals, and it came from a coyote story. Railroad track from Wallula reached Touchet by March 1874. Before that year ended, local farmers had shipped 4,000 tons of wheat from Touchet.
