About the Town of Tully, New York

Tully takes its name from the Roman speaker Marcus Tullius Cicero. The land was in the Military Tract, set aside to pay soldiers of the Revolution. An assistant surveyor who taught at Kings College named its townships after Roman and Greek greats. Andy Tucker, the first settler, built a log cabin here in 1795.

Tully became a summer resort in the late 1800s. The first cottage at Tully Lake Park went up in 1889, and about fifty sites were in use by 1900. In 1892 the Central New York Assembly opened Assembly Park on the east shore for yearly learning sessions.
