About Velva, North Dakota
From the McLean County Historical Society: "VELVA: The descriptive name given this station by the Soo R.R. officials when the roadbed was being constructed through here, cannot be clearly traced, but it is believed the velvet-like appearance of the Mouse River Valley at this point suggested the name."
