About Clarkston, Michigan
Clarkston is a city of 928 people in Oakland County, Michigan. The village was organized and named around 1842, and its name honors Jeremiah and Nelson Clark, the two early settlers who had worked hardest to build up the place.
- The Bartletts came in 1838James Bartlett brought his wife and six sons west from Cayuga County, New York, in 1838 and settled near the land that became Clarkston. One of those sons, Dr. Edward Bartlett, grew up to serve the village as its postmaster. When the county history was written, he had held that office for six years.
- A first class millThe Clarkston mill went up in the same years as the mill at nearby Waterford. Both were still running decades later, and the 1912 History of Oakland County called them first class mills.
