About Waldron, Indiana
Waldron was first called Stroupville or Stroup Town. The name honored George Stroup, who owned the land where the first town plat was staked off. Later the citizens petitioned the state legislature, and the name was changed to Waldron. The town's history began when the railroad was finished and a station opened.
George Wooden was the first merchant in Waldron. He brought a small stock of goods to town and began selling from a house. His stock included boots, shoes, hats, caps, dry goods, groceries, notions and hardware.
