About Waverly, Georgia
Waverly took its name from the Waverley novels of Sir Walter Scott. A post office called Waverly opened in 1894 to serve the growing farm community and its rail line. Long before that, rice fields, canals and dikes of the Middleton-Waverly Plantation covered the area from the 1760s into the late 1800s.
