About Waves, North Carolina
Waves on Hatteras Island took its name from the waves on its beach. With Rodanthe and Salvo, it forms the old settlement of Chicamacomico. Each of the three villages once had its own post office. Today one post office in Waves serves them all.
The Rasmus Midgett House in Waves was built in four stages beginning about 1855. In 1937 it was knocked off its foundation and moved to its present site. A family cemetery shares the property. The house joined the National Register of Historic Places in 2009.
