About Wever, Iowa
Wever replaced an older town called Jollyville. In May 1856, F. M. Jolly had the county surveyor lay off a town on his farm, close to the later Wever station. Every lot sold, and Jollyville thrived. When Wever sprang up on the railroad, the business owners all moved to the new town.
Several ancient mounds stood near Wever and Jollyville. One in the meadow of E. A. Layton drew a good deal of attention. It stood seven to nine feet high and was about fifty feet long. Two others were leveled when John Junge planted his orchard.
- The town's four namesThe local post office opened in 1837 as Sand Ridge. Its name became Green Bay in 1849 and Jollyville in 1859. In 1870 it took the name Wever, which it still carries.
