About Weybridge, Vermont
Guy Woodruff came from Connecticut in 1804 and built a trip-hammer shop for making scythes. It stood at Weybridge Upper Falls, also called Paper Mill Village. He kept working there, later as a blacksmith, until near his death in 1856. His old shop building still stood near the bridge in 1886.
Joseph Battell of Middlebury ran a group of farms called the Bread Loaf Stock Farms. His Weybridge farm covered two hundred acres. There he built a grand barn that cost 10,000 dollars and held about twenty horses and as many cattle.
- The first familiesThomas Sanford and Claudius Britell are honored as the first settlers of Weybridge. Britell later bought the farm where Sanford first located. Sanford's son Ira was the first child born in the town.
