About Beards Fork, West Virginia
Beards Fork is a community of 127 people in central Fayette County, set in a narrow valley between two mountain ridges at an elevation of 1,253 feet. It began as a coal town, and its population has fallen since then, from 199 in 2010 to 127 in 2020. The nearest town is Robson, and mail for Beards Fork goes through the Robson post office.

- Named for its creekThe community takes its name from Beards Fork, a creek that splits off from the main creek close to the small town of Beards. Beards Fork Road follows the stream up the valley, which people here call the hollow or the holler.
- A modern mining town by 1926Beards Fork was founded to mine coal. When Peters and Carden wrote their History of Fayette County in 1926, they counted the mining town on the upper part of Beards Fork among the most modern in West Virginia.
- A labor school's community centerThe Southern Appalachian Labor School runs a community center in Beards Fork, and it is the only organization with offices in town. The nonprofit mainly offers housing services and children's programs for families in the area.
