About Centerville, Tennessee
From the A History of Hickman County: "In 1823 the county records were removed from Vernon to Centerville. The courthouse at Vernon, which was of large hewn poplar logs, was torn down and hauled by wagons to the new county seat, eight miles away."
From the Tennessee Encyclopedia: "In 1823 the new town of Centerville became the county seat. As a result of the bitterness over the change, the old log courthouse at Vernon was dismantled at night and hauled to Centerville, along with the court records."
