About Floweree, Montana
Floweree is a small community of 19 people in Chouteau County, about 18 miles west-southwest of Fort Benton and just off U.S. Route 87. It carries the name of Daniel Floweree, a Texas cattleman who first came to Montana during the gold rush of the 1860s and later built a large ranch in this part of the state.
- 1,500 cattle in 1873In 1873 Daniel Floweree drove 1,500 cattle north from Texas on the Chisholm Trail to ground that is now Chouteau County. He started a large ranch there that raised both cattle and horses, and he marked his stock with the F Triangle brand. The community that grew up in the area took his name.
- Post office, 1910 to 2004Floweree had a post office of its own from 1910 until 2004. The office has closed, but the community still keeps its own ZIP code, 59440.
