About Jalapa, Indiana
Jacob Sprecher laid out Jalapa in 1849, the year after the Mexican War. He named it for a Mexican town where he had been stationed in that war.
In December 1812 Colonel John B. Campbell led six hundred mounted men into Miami country. On December 18, a large Native American force suddenly attacked him on the Mississinewa. Campbell drove them off after a hard-fought battle, and both sides suffered severe losses. The fight took place near the site of present-day Jalapa.
