About Judson, Indiana

Alexander Buchanan was the first white settler to claim land in Washington Township. He arrived in 1821 and settled in the forest on section 24, near Little Raccoon Creek. His only neighbors were Delaware, Miami and Pottawatomie people. In 1872 a railroad station was set up on that same section. It was later named Judson.

The town honors Adoniram Judson, a Baptist missionary. It has also been called Buchanan and Buchanans Springs. It was platted in 1872, and its post office opened that same year.
