About Kings Mills, Ohio
Gainsboro was laid out here in 1815, but it never grew. Kings Mills was founded in 1884 as a company town. Its people worked for the King Powder Company and for Peters Cartridge. The cartridge maker shut down in 1944. The College Football Hall of Fame stood here until 1995, when it left for South Bend, Indiana.
Company I of Xenia, an Ohio Guard unit, left for the Mexican border in September 1916. It stayed in Texas until March 1917. Days later it was ordered to Kings Mills for guard duty at the powder mills.
