About Lake Lakengren, Ohio

Lake Lakengren is a private planned community of 3,387 people in Gasper Township, Preble County, a few miles southwest of Eaton. American Realty Corporation started work on it in 1969 and marketed it with the image of lakes set among emerald hills. Over the next two years the company built the roads, the dams, the green areas and the lodge, and the work was done in 1971.

Once construction was finished, American Realty stepped away. It handed the community over to the Lakengren Property Owners Association, which had just been formed, and the residents have run Lakengren through that association ever since.

  • Said lock-n-grinLocals pronounce the name lock-n-grin. It is said to be a Viking name for a lake set among emerald green hills, which matches the image the developer used when it sold lots here: lakes surrounded by emerald hills.
  • Seven stocked lakesThe property owners association's grounds hold seven lakes, a main lake of 230 acres plus six smaller ones, and every one of them is stocked.
  • Two school districtsLakengren is split between two school systems. Children in the northern part of the community attend Eaton Community Schools, and those in the southern part attend the Preble Shawnee Local School District.
