About Los Luceros, New Mexico
Los Luceros is a community of 891 people in Rio Arriba County, in northern New Mexico. It lies on the floodplain of the Rio Grande, where cottonwood forests grow thick along the riverbanks. The land here was home to a Tewa pueblo long ago, and later to a ranch whose house and apple trees have lasted into modern times.

- A Tewa pueblo ruinThe ruins of a Tewa pueblo stand at the north end of the community. In the Tewa language the site is called Phíˀôegeh Ówîngeh Kayyee, a name that translates as "flicker place pueblo ruin."
- Apples by the riverThe old rancho at Los Luceros planted a large apple orchard on the rich bottomland beside the Rio Grande. When the hacienda was studied for its 1983 nomination, an orchard was still growing on the property.
- A hacienda and its chapelLos Luceros Hacienda is a 19th century ranch house that stands with its own chapel near the community. It joined the National Register as a place worth preserving, and its nomination called it one of the best kept haciendas in northern New Mexico.
