About Louisville, Tennessee

Louisville is a town of 4,384 people along the northern edge of Blount County, Tennessee. Fort Loudoun Lake, an impoundment of the Tennessee River, forms its northern border. Settlers came to the area in the early 1800s, and the river became the town's road to the wider world. Its landing made Louisville an important port for flatboats and steamboats, and the growing town was incorporated in 1851.

  • A port on the riverLouisville grew because it sat right on the Tennessee River. Flatboats and steamboats tied up at its landing, and that river traffic turned an early 1800s settlement into a busy port town, which was incorporated in 1851.
  • The Samuel George HouseSamuel George's house went up around 1815, during the first years of settlement here. Its builders worked in brick and stone with a skill the National Register calls rare in this part of East Tennessee, and the house joined the Register in 1982.
