About Nathrop, Colorado

Nathrop is an unincorporated town and census-designated place of 288 people in Chaffee County, Colorado. It has its own post office, with the ZIP code 81236, and the county governs it. The town is named for Charles Nachtrieb, an early settler who owned the townsite, though his name was later shortened to Nathrop.

“It is not clear why the name was changed except that Nathrop was shorter and easier to pronounce.”
