About Palestine, Indiana
Isham Summy laid out Palestine on April 20, 1837. The village stood where Trimble Creek leaves Palestine Lake, at a good water power site. For twenty years it grew steadily. Then the Pittsburgh, Fort Wayne and Chicago Railroad passed it by in favor of Atwood. From that time, Palestine declined.
- The town's first storeIn 1836, Daniel Underhill sold the first stock of general goods in Harrison Township. His store stood on the site that became the town of Palestine a year later.
