About Pearl River, Louisiana
From Alcée Fortier's 1914 encyclopedia of Louisiana history: "Pearl River, a village of St. Tammany parish, is a station on the New Orleans & Northeastern R. R., 8 miles northeast of Slidell. It is located at the edge of the pine and alluvial farming country and is the shipping point for both."
From the Town of Pearl River: "The community that is today Pearl River was originally known as Halloo, a moniker it reputedly garnered from loggers yelling to one another as they labored along the nearby Pearl River. The town was founded in 1859."
