About Petersham, Massachusetts
Petersham saw the second battle of Shays' Rebellion on February 4, 1787. General Benjamin Lincoln had raised 3,000 troops, and here he routed the rebels. In 1927 a New York group put up a memorial to him in town.
- How the town grewWhen the Quabbin Reservoir was built in 1938, several Swift River Valley towns were dissolved. Petersham received all of the former town of Dana and much of Greenwich.
