About Pineville, Louisiana
From AlcΓ©e Fortier's 1914 encyclopedia of Louisiana history: "Pineville, a town of Rapides parish, is on the east bank of the Red river, opposite Alexandria, and is one of the oldest settlements in Louisiana, as it was the stopping place and portage for the early explorers and traders on the upper Red river. St. Denis was at Pineville in 1700, and from that time it was well known to the French, who sent several expeditions up the river."
